Education
Young startups need great management teams and NC IDEA is commited to helping develop the next generations of great managers in North Carolina. We work with institutional partners to create educational opportunities for aspiring young entrepreneurs.
Young Entrepreneur in Residence (YEiR) Program
NCIDEA introduced the "Young Entrepreneur in Residence" program in 2006 in an effort to attract, develop, and retain young entrepreneurial talent in North Carolina. The program is open to Full-Time MBA students from business schools in North Carolina.
During the yearlong assignment, students have the opportunity to start a company, be part of the founding team for a startup, or join an existing founding team for an early startup. The students are part of the NC IDEA staff for the duration of the engagement, participate in weekly staff meetings and receive the advice and mentorship of the NC IDEA management team.
MBA Pre-Proposal Review Program
In Fall 2008 NC IDEA started the MBA Pre-Proposal Review Program in an effort to expose MBA students interested in entrepreneurship and/or venture investing to North Carolina start-ups. The program provides the following:
- an opportunity to review pre-proposals (mini-business plans) where students read, discuss and review the technology, problem, market, competition, strategy and team of the grant applicants.
- an opportunity to meet and provide feedback to NC entrepreneurs.
- an opportunity to secure a summer internship or employment with a NC based start-up
